  • Variety in sentences

Use of the ‘Super Sentence’ and ‘Punctuation’ booklets have helped pupils address a lack of variety in their sentences. ‘Up-scaling’ exemplar sentences on the board as a class or in groups has been a useful technique to make pupils aware of how they can improve their writing skills.

  • Pupil led learning

Pupil led learning has engaged classes. Regular practice exam questions. Using silent writing time in the lesson and insisting on silence in order to prepare students for exam conditions. Ensuring pupils complete exam questions within a certain amount of time by using a visible timer on the board to help with this.

  • Struggling with literature

Pupils struggled with the literature mock. This is understandable as far as poetry is concerned but do they need to revise / practise questions on ‘Animal Farm’ again?
